Too many families, including those with and without health insurance, risk financial disaster because of the costs of the healthcare they need. Parents cannot get preventive care for their children and resort to using emergency rooms, a costly form of care that Texans pay for in property taxes and rising insurance costs. Premiums for group health insurance are rising much too quickly for workers and their employers who do have insurance because of the need to cover the costs of those who do not. As Governor I will work to increase access to affordable healthcare for Texas families, and lower the cost for those currently insured.
